Florence’s journey started in January 2020 when she was diagnosed with Leukaemia (AML) as a family we were thrust into the world of a cancer diagnosis! We quickly learnt about blood counts, side effects and the gruelling chemotherapy treatment that Florence had to endure.
With more and more children having a life-limiting condition, how to help them live well with the time they have available is the ellenor mantra. As each child is different and their needs are unique, ellenor works in partnership with them and their families to create a bespoke support service throughout their lives and beyond.
Essential to the exceptional standard of holistic care offered by ellenor, the charity that provides support for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families, are its Health Care Assistants. Without them – quite simply - the charity couldn’t function.
When their beloved daughter, Kerrie, died from breast cancer at the age of 36 in September 2017, Dianne and her husband George didn’t just have to find a path through their own grief – they had to help Kerrie’s young sons cope with theirs, too. Throughout the process, we were there to support the family, both practically and emotionally.
“Christmas can be a wonderful time for many, but we are reminded every year of how difficult it can be for some. It is a real milestone for friends and families after a loss and we recognise the importance of stopping for a moment and celebrating the lives of our loved ones”.
It is hard to enter ellenor hospice in Gravesend without noticing the lovely garden, visible through the building and from many of the patient rooms and offices. What may be less obvious is the contribution the garden makes to the patients, families, visitors, staff and volunteers who make ellenor the place that it is.
Record breaking numbers took part in ellenor’s annual Twilight Walk.
All sponsorship money raised through the event will go towards care and support for patients, families and carers living with life limiting or terminal illness in Kent.

The former High Sheriff of Kent has been announced as Patron of ellenor. Amanda Cottrell OBE has taken up the position to help raise awareness of the charity which provides hospice care for people of all ages in their place of choice in Kent, and the only charity providing children’s nursing care in the home.
ellenor’s exciting Accumulator Challenge has raised £26,305 which could pay for over 844 hours of Play Therapy or over 54 days of care on ellenor’s Inpatient Ward.
