Every year, BGC Partners – a global financial brokerage – commemorates the loss of 719 of its employees in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on 11 September 2001, by hosting its BGC Charity Day, and this year will see a new charity face among the big names.

ellenor has been chosen as one of only a very few local charities nationally to be hand selected to take part in and benefit from the day, following a rigorous four month selection process.

This remarkable event sees a carefully selected group of good causes represented by hundreds of celebrity ambassadors, including actors, sports personalities and royalty, who take to the trading floors at BGC’s offices in Canary Wharf and around the world, to raise money for charity, with 100% of its global revenues on the day being donated.Over the past eleven years, BGC Charity Day has raised a phenomenal $125 million for charity.

“For a charity of our size, which has such an impact in the local community, to be acknowledged in this way on an international level is a real mark of recognition for the world leading care that we provide locally for our families,” says Rachel Holweger, Director of Fundraising for ellenor.

“We are so grateful to BGC Partners for this opportunity which does credit to the dedicated team of care and support staff who work to ensure that those facing terminal illness get the very best care. All the funds raised will be spent to benefit the local community and used to further develop our unique services so that we can reach more people that urgently need our help.”

Last year’s Charity Day was held on Friday 11 September 2015 and raised approximately $12 million globally and was supported by celebrities such as Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and Sarah, Duchess of York; actors Jake Gyllenhaal, Joanna Lumley and Michael J. Fox; musicians including Curtis “50” Cent, and Vanessa Williams and many leading athletes and sports personalities as well as celebrities from the world of fashion and the media.

BGC President, Shaun D. Lynn, said: “We are proud to be connected to such impactful charities around the world and inspired by our clients and employees’ continued dedication to Charity Day’s mission of helping others in need. It is because of these valued partners and our celebrity guests who come to BGC Partners trading floors and help raise funds on that day, that we can truly make a meaningful contribution and financial assistance to so many outstanding organizations globally.”

ellenor will be represented on the day by TV property expert Phil Spencer, ITV’s Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins, Tom Parker of platinum-selling boy band The Wanted, BBC Journalist and presenter Chris Hollins, and England and Kent cricketer James Tredwell amongst others to be announced over the coming weeks.

Rachel comments “We are absolutely delighted and thankful to have the support of not only three of our dedicated celebrity ambassadors, but also from some other well known faces who are all generously giving up their time to help families in need of our care.”

Funds raised on the day will go towards the provision of ellenor’s unique in-home oncology service to children meaning that children living with cancer can receive their cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, in the comfort and security of their own home. This special service avoids the need for families to make stressful, time consuming and costly journeys to hospital, and allows the child to stay at home, alongside their parents and siblings, in familiar surroundings, and with home comforts such as their own bed and TV.

BGC Charity Day is held in BGC offices across the globe including: London, New York, Paris, Hong Kong, São Paulo, Singapore, Sydney, and other locations. This year’s event is to be held on Monday 12 September 2016.
